The video shows the moment the Italian Coast Guard rescues the child from the mattress. The rescue team reported that the conditions in the area were severe, with strong winds and sea currents.
While trying to save her grandson, the grandmother was also dragged by the current. She was found about 3.2 km from the town of Castellammare di Stabia.
“We continue to recommend maximum caution and remind the public: avoid using inflatable mattresses, floaters, or small boats in strong wind conditions,” the Coast Guard warned.
“I want to thank you for saving my son and my mother. I take my hat off to you, thank you very much!” said the child’s father, identified as Gioacchino D’Angelo.
The child and grandmother were taken to emergency services after the rescue. No one was injured.
